The auto ancillary firm is using digital technologies to bring in more and more transparency in operations

To ensure that customer feedback is taken and acted upon, we developed an app for grievances wherein customers connect directly with the management and express their grievances. To bring in further accountability, we created a whistle-blower app for employees to report any malpractice that they encounter within the company.

Lumax which signifies luminosity maxima, has taken automotive lighting to an entirely new level. The company accounts for over 60 per cent market share in the Indian automobile lighting business, catalysed by its over two decades' strong technical and financial collaboration with Stanley Electric Company Ltd, Japan, world leader in vehicle lighting and illumination products for automobiles.

Maintaining quality and meeting customer expectations is, therefore, the biggest commitment for Lumax. However, connecting with the end customer is always a challenge, especially when the company is not a consumer-facing brand and catering mostly to the auto ancillary market.

Lumax Industries offers a wide array of complete automobile lighting systems and solutions which includes stellar quality head lamps and tail lamps, sundry and auxiliary lamps and other related products and accessories for four-wheelers, two-wheelers, trucks, buses, earth-movers, tractors and a variety of diverse applications.

The results were quickly seen. “Dynamic changes were highlighted immediately after the deployment of these apps instead of following a wait and watch approach,” says Madan.

Instead of working in a silo, Madan ensured there is a management buy-in and full support for every IT project he undertakes, thereby acting as a business enabler himself instead of just acting as a business support function. “We setup a social networking site for top management to share communication. This is something missing in most organisations and brings in more transparency in the enterprise,” Madan opines.

All legacy data at Lumax has already been converted to digital formats. But that is not all for Lumax's digital transformational journey. “My long-term digital transformation goal is to make shop-floor to the top floor fully digital which includes every business process in the company, from manufacturing to procurement to sales and even management,” Madan says.
