When we built our first Rolta Private Cloud two-and-a-half years ago, it was supposed to cater to the internal business and internal IT environment. However, we have been able to enable customers, hosting on the same Rolta Private Cloud and that is how the transformation is happening.

IT transformation is not just an internal support role but a major force driving the business of any company, shares Rajesh Garg, CIO, Rolta India. Garg, the driving force behind the digital transformation of the BSE-listed company, says that Rolta used to run on legacy environment for almost 33 years. However, in the last two-and-a-half years, the company has transformed from a legacy-driven one into a world-class organisation with a highly secure and revenue enabled generator infrastructure environment.

Garg says that adding the technology team is helping the pre-sales and sales teams to deliver results in a few minutes now as against about six weeks two-and-a-half years ago.

“The IT environment, which was only 40 percent utilised, is now 90 percent utilised,” shares Garg adding that the company has been able to centralise all its data centres into a small and concise Rolta Private Cloud virtualised data centre which has more than 1,000 virtual machines.

The company hosts several business groups and lot of IPs on Rolta Private Cloud. All the demos, POCs and readymade templates for business groups are ready within five-six minutes through those templates. Garg further adds that having a unified communication within the company was another major step towards digital transformation. The organisation, today, integrates all the data as well as voice, video and instant messaging through a unified communication infrastructure where people can have seamless voice calls across all the global offices of Rolta.

Besides, the company, under CIO 3.0, has done a lot of security projects and implementations so the environment is highly secure. Garg, who has been a Rolta loyalist, further says establishment is working on Cloud and advanced mobility and has created its own IPs on Security, Big Data and Cloud.

“These IPs help in the acceleration of our business implementation for our customer projects. One of the IPs helped in setting up a big security infrastructure in the Middle East which was for the smart security project where we used Oracle IDM and Rolta IPs. All these applications are now integrated on one platform,” shares Garg.

Rolta expects about `3,000 crore revenues in FY’17 and expects its profitability to improve by 30 per cent once the IP-enabled work is introduced. The firm works on several EPC projects and has been working on several Smart City and 3D Mapping with city modelling projects in the Middle East.
